VAT registration number
A VAT registration number is the 15-digit number that identifies a business registered for VAT in Saudi Arabia. It starts and ends with the digit 3. It appears with your seller details on tax invoices and is one of the five details inside the Phase 1 QR code.
What it means
The number has a fixed shape: 15 digits, with a 3 at the start and a 3 at the end. It is how the Authority and your customers recognise your business as a VAT-registered seller, so it sits among your company details in the invoicing system and is printed on the invoices you issue. A glance at both ends gives a quick first check of its shape.
Accuracy matters more than it looks. The Phase 1 QR code packs in five details: seller name, VAT registration number, timestamp, invoice total with VAT and the VAT amount. A single wrong digit in your settings is therefore repeated on every invoice and every QR code until someone spots it, and your business customers inherit the error in their purchase records.
Think of a cafe owner setting up a till for the first time. The number is copied from an old email and one digit is dropped, so the receipts show 14 digits. The cashier may notice nothing, because the receipt looks complete. A thirty-second check, counting the digits and confirming both ends are 3, catches the slip before the first customer is served.
In practice
- Enter your number once, in your company settings, and count the 15 digits.
- Confirm that the first and last digits are both 3.
- Compare the number on a test invoice with the one the Authority gave you.
- Scan the QR code on a sample invoice and read the number inside.
Questions about VAT registration number
How many digits does a Saudi VAT registration number have?
It has 15 digits, and both the first and the last digit are 3. If a number you are given is shorter or longer, or begins or ends with another digit, treat it as a mistake and check it against the number the Authority issued to the business before using it on invoices.
Where does my VAT registration number show up on invoices?
Your invoicing system prints it with your seller details on each tax invoice, and the QR code carries it too. Since one setting feeds both places, correct it in your company settings and every later invoice follows with no extra work. Check it before the first sale rather than after.
